Company History

Origins and growth of the Centre for Public Management (CPM)

CPM was founded in 1991 by Dr John R Baker, a former senior public servant and Australian Ambassador.

The company has delivered a wide range of management and leadership development programs over its 20 year history, including the APSC’s Band One SES program, public sector reform and leadership training in Eastern Europe and the developing countries of Africa and the South Pacific, as well as public residential leaderships programs for the APS.

In recent years the company has diversified into 360° feedback services, performance management consulting and the establishment of an executive coaching practise.

In January 2013, the Australian Institute of Management (AIM) acquired CPM. The strong synergies between the two organisations allows us to deliver a more comprehensive range of management and leadership development opportunities to the public sector, at both state and federal levels.

CPM now operates as a division of AIM, reporting to the CEO of the organisation and the AIM Board of Directors.
